Grasshopper Pattern Keeps Working!

By / April 23, 2016 / Bass, Bethany Lakes, Bluegill

Foam Grasshopper

Grasshopper pattern keeps working; lots of green stuff to foul lines and lures. Grasshopper was able to stay “green” free and fooled a few Bass and Bluegill!

One Bluegill looked really nice; submitted it to the Fishing Bulletin Board! Bass were scrappy but no Bruisers to bend the rod. No worries… still lots of fun on the four weight rod.

Did lose the Grasshopper to a snag; able to continue catching them using a smaller sized Grasshopper but really liked the one that was lost. Will tie more for future trips!

Always great to find a fly pattern that works well, especially one that you've tied yourself. Good work!

Steve.

Thanks Steve, it is great to catch them on fishing flies tied by oneself. Made it out again today. Pattern did well again. Has been the go to pattern when the ponds get clobbered with the green "algae"!

There's a pond just down the road that sometimes gets infested with an aquatic aquarium weed. Unfortunately when people get tired of their goldfish, they throw them and the contents of the fish tank into the pond. This particular water weed grows very fast and can cover large areas, restricting fishing and canoeing. On a plus side, some of the goldfish that I have caught in the pond have grown to a pretty fair size. They take white bread and maggots freely.
Cheers,
Steve.
