  • Slab and Jig Rig… Sabiki Style! #fishing #kayakfishing

    By / May 23, 2017 / Fishing

Here is the Slab and Jig Rig that we like using when kayak fishing our local lake. Uses Uni-Knots to join lines, Overhand/Uni-knots to set the Sabiki droppers, Improved Clinch Knots to tie on the Slab and two Crappie Jigs, and a Perfection Loop that attaches to the swivel. Also, for the main line, we… [read more]

    By / June 12, 2016 / Fishing

Video of the action Thursday (June 9, 2016) at Brockdale Park is posted below. Bite was on with the White Bass going for the Sabiki and Slab Rig. Caught over 30+ but only five were Keepers. Did have a sixth Keeper but lost it while putting it on the stringer. Decided to make a better… [read more]

  • Yellow Bass This Round

Put in at Lavonia Saturday and started out trolling Sabiki Rigged Crappie Jigs and a Slab. Had strikes soon after launching from the boat ramp. Thought the rig was bumping bottom but it turned out two undersized White Bass were on the line. Did mor trolling and caught more undersized White Bass. Then, anchored off… [read more]

  • Another Round at Little Ridge

    By / August 9, 2015 / Fishing

Decided to give it another try at Little Ridge this morning. More rough conditions but things calmed down later. Bite was slower compared to yesterday but then found them (White Bass) lurking in a cove. Calm water, out of the wind, and lots of feeding fish… multiple hook ups on the Sabiki Rig for White… [read more]

  • Little Ridge for Kayak Trolling

Planned to kayak fish Tickey Creek this morning but switched to Little Ridge. While getting water for the fishing trip at a convenience store, learned from another kayak fisherman that Little Ridge’s boat ramp was open and White Bass were in the area. Started out slow with windy conditions and rough water to make things… [read more]

  • Frito Fishing Fly Worked at Brockdale, Too

By / August 6, 2015 / Lake Lavon, White Bass

Short video this round; shows the action we had at Brockdale Park this evening. Late start and then a dirty lens made us opt for editing out the onesie/twosie hook ups and show mainly the three and four fish hook ups. The Frito Fishing Fly worked well with lots of hook ups and like yesterday,… [read more]

  • Tickey Creek This Round… Frito Fishing Fly Worked!

By / August 6, 2015 / Lake Lavon, White Bass

Below is the follow-on video of the action from yesterday when we fished Tickey Creek! Really liking the simple fishing flies that work great on the Sabiki Rig for White Bass! Calling them Frito Fishing Flies for now since we made them from a Frito Bag that a certain unnamed individual finished without sharing! Going to tie… [read more]

  • Frito Fishing Flies for the Sabiki Rig

    By / August 5, 2015 / Fishing

Still tinkering with the Sabiki Rig for White Bass. Planned to go fishing after work today. But, ran out of Crappie Jigs. Did see a YouTube video on making fishing flies for a Sabiki Rig using packaging from a coffee bag. Did not have a coffee bag but did have a “just finished” Frito bag…. [read more]

  • Surf Casting without the Surf at Brockdale This Evening

By / August 4, 2015 / Bass, Catfish, Lake Lavon, White Bass

Late start today but did manage to get some surf casting (without the surf) practice in this evening at Brockdale. Went with the Penn Squall 15 Reel and Daiwa Sealine Surf Casting Rod and Sabiki Rigged Crappie Jigs. Started using the Crappie Jigs and Slab setup we used the other day while kayak fishing, but… [read more]

  • Bite Was On at Brockdale But…

Another round this morning at Brockdale Park. Water was rougher than yesterday but still manageable. Used five Sabiki Rigged Crappie Jigs and caught an undersized White Bass after about 10 minutes of trolling. Then, no hits for a while so switched the lowest Crappie Jig with a Chartreuse Slab. Good thing as the bite was… [read more]
