Each year the Trinity River at River Park is stocked with Rainbow Trout.

  • The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) stocks the river as part of the annual Winter Trout Stocking Program. As of this posting, the scheduled stocking date is January 7, 2015. For the latest update, go to TPWD’s Rainbow Trout Stocking Schedule.
  • The Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) stocks the river through an effort separate from TPWD’s program. As of this posting, the scheduled stocking date is January 22, 2015. For the latest update, go to TRWD’s Events Calendar.

Of interest to fishermen wanting a chance to hook and possibly land large trout (larger than the 9″-11″ size trout stocked by TPWD), the Field Team suggests checking out the TRWD stocking…. stringers of 5 pound plus Rainbow Trout are a possibility!

First video clip below shows an outing to River Park and then later Waterloo Park Pond in Denison. Only one Trout was caught that went about 14″ in size, else the video shifts to Waterloo.

Second video clip provides more background on TRWD’s Trout Stocking Program to include the stockings at Trinity Park (also noted as Clear Fork Trinity River on the schedule). Do note the larger size Trout caught by one fisherman
